Holman grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and is a former middle school teacher. He is currently a lawyer who also makes children’s books. He and his brother Jack are the twin powers behind the award-winning board book series Cozy Classics and Star Wars Epic Yarns, which abridge literary and cinematic classics into just 12 words and 12 needle-felted images. Holman’s latest books are Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad!, companion picture books published by Tundra Books | Penguin Random House Canada.
He has a bachelor of science from the University of Toronto, as well as an education degree, a masters degree (architecture history) and a law degree from the University of British Columbia.
Holman’s unique artwork has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, People, Parents, The Globe and Mail, and The Guardian, as well as on radio and TV. His work has been honored with juried selections to participate in the Bologna Children’s Books Fair Illustrators Exhibition in 2013 and 2019 , as well as The Original Art Exhibition (Society of Illustrators) in 2015. His work has also been exhibited at the National Museum of Play and Hofstra University.
Holman has given presentations about bookmaking and career change at SXSW, Star Wars Celebration, Google, Lucasfilm Letterman Campus, San Diego Comic-Con, Maker Faire and the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival.
Holman still lives in Vancouver with his wife and kids. When he’s not making books or practicing law, he can be found playing mediocre ice hockey or even worse guitar.
Holman is represented by Alex Slater at Sanford J. Greenberger Associates.
